Typological identification comment
Late Roman Corinthian imitation of Athenian lamp?
Description
Concave discus has filling hole and irregular straight bands in relief, all very worn: uneven petals of rosette, or rays from head of Helios?
Fabric, firing, and surface description
5YR 7/6, reddish yellow. Late Roman Corinthian red fabric: hard, gritty clay with uncommon, small to medium, subrounded to subangular grey rocky and rare, small, subrounded calcite inclusions.
Preservation comment
One small fragment preserves less than one-quarter of discus and rim. Severe, extensive abrasion and chipping; scattered specks of encrustation.
