Description
Circular discus with filling hole below middle, figural relief, and framing groove. Relief shows Pegasus advancing left with wings open upward, left forelimb straight, and right forelimb flexed upward. Sloping, plain shoulder. Tall ring handle with two grooves in front attaches at discus rim and halfway down back wall.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 5YR 8/4, pink. Slip: 2.5YR 5/8, red. Very fine, hard fabric; smooth break; very rare, small, rounded lime specks; rare golden micacesous bits. Semilustrous, somewhat thick, even slip on exterior and upper interior. Brushed smooth. Over all very finely made. Cf. Corinthian sigillata.
Preservation comment
Four joining sherds preserve two thirds of discus and shoulder, entire handle, and back wall. Very slight, sparse chipping around edges; scattered specks of encrustation.
