Description
Circular outline. Circular, wide, plain discus has very small central filling hole and two raised framing rings; three framing grooves; air hole. Cracks around filling hole and dent in discus from something falling on it in the kiln. Heart-shaped nozzle. Shoulder has large ovules. Narrow, pierced handle that impinges on framing rings has single groove; four hashmarks pointing down at front base of handle. Flat, circular base has incuse signature: ROMANΗSIS over small circle (end of signature appears to drift slightly downward and missing lower portions of letters).
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Clay: 2.5YR 5/4, reddish brown. Slip: 5YR 4/3. reddish brown, to 5YR 6/6, reddish yellow. Fine, hard, smooth fabric with very rare, very small, subrounded, white and yellow inclusions; sparse, small voids (air bubbles). Metallic to irridescent, fine and thin, smooth, even slip with irregular darker streaks; brushed over top unevenly and excess ran down sides. Knidian fabric.
Preservation comment
Intact but missing top of handle, end of nozzle, and small part of base. Well preserved surface.
