Description
Circular outline. Circular, concave discus has central filling hole with flat(?) rim, rays, and raised rim with narrow, rounded framing ring; small circular airhole at front rim. Somewhat narrow, sloping shoulder has grapevine motif of three sharp leaves and two grape clusters with springy tendrils per side. Elongated, flat, kite-shaped nozzle; traces of burning. Back of handle with two grooves terminates at point just above base ring. Circular, slightly concave base has rounded ring around incuse signature: ΛΕ (branch below center? for Λεοντέωϲ). Details are blunt, and rays are very faint, from worn morn.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Middle Roman Athenian lamp fabric: somewhat soft, reddish.
Preservation comment
Ten joining fragments preserve roughly one third of discus, one half of shoulder, lower handle, entire nozzle, and most of base. Severe, extensive abrasion and sparse chipping; sparse patches of encrustation on bottom.
