1950s-1960s?: mending with natural shellac.
Description
Large platter imitating ARS Hayes Form 89B. Very high pedestal foot, flaring, with rounded outer edge. Flat floor. Double band of tall, imprecise rouletting above three grooves on exterior of foot. Corinthian product.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
2.5YR 6/8, light red. Slip: similar. Coarse fabric, consistently fired, has uncommon to common, small to medium, subangular, light (“calcitic”), gray, and red inclusions and very rare, large, angular, dark gray to black inclusions. Thin, even, matte slip on all surfaces, same color as fabric. Turning marks on interior of foot.
Preservation comment
Four joining sherds preserve less than one quarter of foot and small part of floor. Slight to moderate, somewhat extensive abrasion and chipping.
