Platter. Widely flaring upper body with horizontal, slightly downturned rim. Three grooves with rounded ridges on lateral upper face of rim and evenly spaced radiating marks on outer lip. Fine craftsmanship: well executed slip and very thin wall.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 5YR 7/6, reddish yellow. Slip: 2.5YR 6/8, orange. Hard, very slight granular fabric, consistently fired, with rare, small, elongated and rounded, light (“calcitic”) inclusions. Thin, lightly smoothed, semiglossy slip, slightly darker in color than fabric over rim to orange where thickest, best preserved on interior and exterior walls.
Preservation comment
Two joining sherds (KP281) and one nonjoining sherd from same vessel (KP429) preserve ca. 20% of rim and small part of floor. KP281: moderate to severe, extensive abrasion and chipping and gouging; heavily worn breaks.
