Large Late Roman Amphora 2. Very heavy, thick, flaring rim with slightly rounded thick upper edge to rim. Oval handle attaches at upper neck just below rim.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Slightly granular fabric with light red core and pale horizons, especially towards exterior. Occasional large, well-sorted, rounded to subrounded, calcareous chunks visible in breaks and on surface, with less common red chunks are less common and other varied, tiny bits. Surface is thinly slipped and pale. Typical Southern Argolid Fabric.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves ca. 20-25% and profile of flaring rim and roughly one half of neck circumference, with one handle stub and small part of neck below. Slight, sparse abrasion and scratching, with large chips on neck up to rim; mostly clean breaks.
