Description
Late unguentarium with heavy construction. Compact fusiform body; toe roughly finished by hand. Upper part slipped. Two deep rectangular incuse stamps just above toe (H. 0.0135mm): monograms in shallow relief.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Bluish gray core; surface (0.5 mm) fired pale red. Hard, fine; smooth to conchoidal break. Rare, tiny to very small, black and white inclusions; very rare, small, rounded voids. Exterior shows hand-fashioning (roughly broken bottom; various gouges and slices before firing) and wet smoothing; prominent spiral groove up from toe on interior. Slip: drip and cloud of thin, uneven, pale reddish brown, semilustrous slip down one side.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves lower part of vessel. Surface in good condition but rare gouging; worn breaks; rare specks of encrustation around stamps.
