Description
Flask or canteen (askodaulos). Tapering neck, grooved at attached to rounded body with flat front and back faces and outward sloping shoulder. One extant face is decorated with at least three concentric circles in dark paint; these overlap with the edge of the shoulder and their center is left of the neck; to left these circles is a straight (diagonal) stroke. Probably regional product, 10th-11th centuries.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Slightly granular fabric fired to very pale red with small to very small, angular and subrounded, light (lime) chunks. Surface pale (2.5Y 8/3, ”pale yellow”).
