1960s: extensive refitting with shellac and infilling with white plaster.
Description
Hemispherical bowl or cup. Slightly everted rim has plain, rounded lip; distinct groove just below rim on exterior. Base is formed by bead with groove just inside, flat central portion. The decorative scheme has three major components: a band of relatively widely-spaced rouletting below rim, then two grooves above a plain band; two grooves below that above a band of relatively tightly spaced rouletting that descends towards base. Seven concentric grooves, which may be a spiral but are interrupted by a break.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Plaster in-fill prevents direct observation of break but fabric is in general light red to pink with darker core; very few inclusions, rare rounded light. Extant slip varies from dark red to gray.
Preservation comment
Sixteeen joining sherds preserve well over half of circumference of rim, entire base, profile, and over half of vessel overall. Moderate, extensive abrasion and very slight chipping.
