1960s: sherds joined with natural shellac and partial filling with white plaster painted gray.
Description
Bowl with rounded walls, small hollow base, and rounded rim. Three light grooves below rim on interior; lighter grooves on exterior. Two deeper concentric grooves around center of floor. Extant painted decoration consists of two connected spirals in lighter paint that is now mostly visible as traces, one partial; complete spiral has five rotations and is connected to a missing spiral at right. There is a partial stroke above the stroke that joins the extant spirals. Three lines of unequal length form a six-pointed star pattern at the center of the floor that crosses the concentric grooves; that paint has mostly faded.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Slightly granular “light reddish brown” (5YR 6/3) fabric with occasional rounded and angular light inclusions (some lime, some quartz). Thin, matte slip is much darker (5YR 5/1), covering extant interior, on upper exterior with drip marks and smudges from handling below.
Preservation comment
Two joining sherds preserve full profile, 50% of base, and 25% of rim. Slight, sparse abrasion and pitting; mostly clean breaks.
