Description
No relief on shoulder; uneven groove on neck; almond base raised-slightly concave; no handle.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Typical Early Roman Attic clay: fine but gritty texture; pale orange with tinge of pink; well sorted, tiny to small, subrounded and subangular, uncommon black and rare white (calcareous) and gray and red bits. Firing consistent; brittle to flakey clay. Thin, even(?), matte slip, fired reddish brown on exterior (and interior?). Typical very early Roman Athenian.
Preservation comment
Intact lamp. Moderate, extensive erosion and erosion with massive flaking on underside; faint patches of slip; thin film of discoloration (encrustation?) Marine submersion?
