Fabric, firing, and surface description
As far as can be observed through weathering: brown fabric with a tinge of yellow, unslipped lower body fired to slightly darker brown right at surface; hard, gritty, with rough surface; uncommon to common, poorly sorted, lime specks; uncommon, small, poorly sorted, subangular and platy black bits, some dark red(?). Lower half unslipped; upper half covered with very thin, even, dull wash fired red, flaking in large patches. Faint turning grooves around body. Vessel leans backwards slightly from vertical axis due to malformed base(?).
Preservation comment
Intact. Sparse, somewhat extensive abrasion and minor chipping and frequent pitting; extensive white coating (mortar?) concentrated on one side; thick, blobby encrustation on upper underside of handle. Weathering consistent with prolonged marine encrustation.
