1960s: sherds rejoined with shellac and infilled with white plaster.
Description
Tall thin-walled beaker. DIsk base; convex walls. Sharply rounded rim has a groove below to mark it from wall. Slightly concave base is also marked by a distinct groove just above it. On the upper wall a band is distinguished by a sharp offset that creates a slight narrowing of the body; no surface decoration here on vessel. Below offset is a band of rouletting that extends down past the widest point of the body and well toward base. Impression of rouletting, with some horizontal stretches being deeper, so that they give the appearance of light grooves. The rouletting tapers out, leaving a plain area above the base.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Sherds somewhat discolored and breaks obscured. Where visible due to surface wear, the fabric is pink and quite fine, with occasional sandy inclusions, some visible on surface.
Preservation comment
Fourteen joining sherds preserve small portion of rim, complete profile including all of base (which is present as a single sherd). Slip largely preserved but worn in patches. Extensive, slight to moderate abrasion and rare pitting. Weathering consistent with marine submersion.
