Description
Small flanged bowl with ring foot; distinctly tooled under flange. Groove marks ring foot from lower outer wall. Turning marks on exterior. There is a single short stray diagonal tool mark on exterior.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Very slightly granular fabric with tiny light bits that present a “speckled” appearance, which is known for ware; rare small rounded lime; elongated voids on exterior wall and base. Darker red (10R 4/6, “red”) slip interior slip now worn, especially at base, some gloss extant; slip on outer rim is worn away, a side effect of over firing; exterior slip is variable with drip lines.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves full profile, 25% of rim, 33% of base, and large part of body. Slight, extensive abrasion and scratching and large chips from base; worn breaks.
