Description
Large pitcher. Wide, low ring base rounded on outer face but sloping on interior. Rounded lower body. Two sharp grooves near base and one at shoulder frame zone of vertical grooving, evenly spaced, cut from bottom to top: imitation of fluting on metal vessels.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Material typical for ware. Slip over entire outside and partly inside with long drip down to floor. Somewhat thin, orangish red but mottled, so far as can be discerned through weathering.
Preservation comment
Four large joining sherds preserve entire base and part of lower to middle body. Faint abrasion and light chipping and gouging; very worn breaks. Weathering consistent with long marine submersion.
