Description
Large rectangular slab with molded framing and recessed central panel. Plain outside face. Slightly convex edges with subtly rounded modeling on either side of corner angle. Molding consists of plain, flat fascia (W. 0.048 m) bordering a narrow band (W. 0.044 m) raised at an angle towards the interior and descending in a smooth curve into a recessed panel. At the broken interior edges is preserved part of a low ridge that joins a slightly more recessed panel within. Very smoothly finished on decorated surface, edges, and corner: fine scoring suggests careful polishing. The back is also smoothly finished and has two slight offsets, parallel, off-axis, and 0.109 m apart. Flat patches of mortar on underside indicates attachment as surface, not as freestanding panel.
Preservation comment
Creamy white, somewhat fine to somewhat medium-grained, crystalline marble. Pentelic?
Preservation comment
One large fragment preserves corner and large part of two edges and central panel. Slight, sparse chipping around edges; patches of yellow discoloration.
