Transitional form with rim that leans more 10A: mid-late 6th c.
Description
Large bowl. Flaring, curving upper body. Vertical rim, blocky and slightly convex, with widely overhanging flange below; narrowed at top with sloping inner face, offset from interior wall.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Consistently fired to red. Hard, gritty fabric with granular break. Frequent, poory sorted, tiny to small lime specks, many visible on all surfaces. Very thin matte slip on all surfaces, essentially same color as fabric but stripes of purplish brown. Fine brushing marks on interior. Classic LRC fabric.
Preservation comment
Two nonjoining sherds (1120/1516) preserve 15% of rim and upper wall. Slight, extensive abrasion and chipping around edges; slightly worn breaks; thin, slight patches of encrustation.
