Samos Cistern Amphora
Description
Solid spike toe. Faint spiral ridging. Flat end, spiral is slightly deepened to mark it off from above.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Reddish brown fabric with gritty surface and slightly granular break; frequent tiny golden micaceous flakes at surface; uncommon, small, rounded, elongated lime and quartz; other tiny light bits.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves entire spike and small part of lower body. Slight, somewhat extensive abrasion and chipping along edge; somewhat worn break; thick encrustation on all surfaces.
