Agora M54=Knossos 47=“Pseudo-coenne“ en cloche (second half 1st-late 2nd century CE)
Description
Thick-walled upper body (or neck?) tapers steeply to rim. Rounded rim, rolled outward and slightly undercut. Short, irregular, vertical gouges along the outer face of the rim: damage associated with a lid? (cf. KTH1784).
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Red, slightly coarse, somewhat hard fabric with granular to conchoidal break; surface fired to slightly more orange hue; frequent, tiny to small, rounded, clustering, subrounded and subangular, black stoney particles mixed with rare, tiny, red and rarely white bits; infrequent, small, round voids. Inclusions frequent at surface, which has slightly bumpy texture.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves 20% of rim and large part of upper body (or neck). Moderate, extensive abrasion and slight pitting; worn edges; extensive, somewhat thin film of encrustation.
