Description
Bolster krater(?). Heavy, molded foot consisting of scotia above small torus ring above a flaring, concave lower foot. Glazed on exterior save for reserved groove above torus. Resting surface and inside of foot reserved though trace of glaze at top suggests that underside (not preserved) may have been glazed. Hellenistic.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fine, moderately soft clay with few inclusions or voids. Thick, even but flakey black glaze.
Preservation comment
Two joining fragments and one non-joining fragment, seemingly from the same vessel, is kept with the uninventoried pottery, preserve profile of foot. Extensive abrasion and slight to moderate chipping and gouging; specks of encrustation.
