Description
Powder pyxis small lid. Fragment preserving part of outer edge of lid and part of outer wall of pyxis on the underside. Wall flares out slightly away from lid. On upper surface of low, conical lid an incised groove near the outer edge. 4th century BCE.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Very fine, soft clay with very few visible inclusions (small, subrounded, white). Unglazed.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves ca. 25-30% of lid. Slight to moderate, somewhat extensive abrasion and pitting with chipping around edges; worn breaks; scattered specks of encrustation. Band of black staining (apparently not scorching?).
