Description
Tear- or almond-shaped body. Circular(?), concave discus has raised rim with raised dots flanking base of handle. Sloping shoulder has herringbone in sharp relief. Slight joining ridge along rim near handle. Thick, pierced handle has two grooves and shows misalignment at suture; lower handle has flanking grooves. Flat base has double circular to oval grooves around incuse signature: ΧΙΟ|ΝΗϹ̣ (chi slopes right; long, sharp serifs).
Fabric, firing, surface
Typical fabric, firing, and surface treatment for ware. 2.5YR 6/4, light reddish brown. Hard, fine fabric. Unglazed.
Preservation description
Five joining fragments preserve entire handle, ca. 33% of shoulder, <25% of discus, and 50%of base. Slight, sparse abrasion with rare scoring; moderately worn breaks; thick, widespread encrustation.
