Description
Tear-shaped outline. Circular, concave, plain discus has central filling hole, three holes around, single circles at corners of handle, raised rim, and framing ring with single circles at juncture with nozzle. Slightly sloping shoulder has herringbone in high relief. Rounded nozzle framed by double angled grooves on right and wavy lines with single angled groove on left has airhole with transverse ridge at top; traces of burning. Thick, solid handle has two grooves above and one below; lower handle has flanking grooves. Flat base has double almond-shaped grooves around single circles at top and bottom and incuse design of simple Greek cross with flaring ends at bottom and traces of uncertain forms toward top.
Fabric, firing, surface
2.5YR 7/8, light red (interior) to 10R 7/8, red (exterior). Somewhat hard, fine to slightly gritty fabric. Unglazed. Attic.
Preservation description
Three large joining fragments preserve entire top and ca. 75% of body but missing small part of right wall and base. Slight, extensive abrasion with gouging and large chips; moderately worn breaks; thin, intermittent film of encrustation.
