Description
Oval or tear-shaped(?), shallow discus has relief of bear with oversized head and eye and shaggy hair advancing left, three holes above and one or two below, raised rim, and deep framing groove. Small stamped circles over body suggest retouching. Details are irregular.
Fabric, firing, surface
Typical fabric, firing, and surface treatment for ware. 5YR 6/6, reddish yellow. Slip: 2.5YR 6/6, light red. Thin, dull slip as wash preserved in patches across discus.
Preservation description
One small fragment preserves central part of discus. Slight, sparse abrasion with minor scoring; worn breaks; thick, rough encrustation across relief.
