Description
Uncertain whether this is base of large pitcher reused as lid, or a manufactured saucer-lid. String-cut base; rounded at resting surface and pressed up in center. Wide wall. Plain, rounded lip; or broken edge rounded. Stubby interior projection that does not form a functional knob handle, possibly from potting.
Fabric, firing, surface
7.5YR 7/6, reddish yellow, to 10YR 7/2, light gray. Somewhat soft, gritty fabric with few mica and common, poorly sorted, white, tan and black inclusions; slight spalling. Imported?
Preservation comment
Intact. Extensive chipping on rim; moderate patches of encrustation.
