Description
Stamnos. Slightly concave base. Flaring wall; corrugated lower body. Globular middle to upper body. Flaring rim with tapered lip, deeply undercut; slopes inward on interior to form lid seating. Spined, horizontal strap handles attach just below two deep grooves on upper neck. Splashes of red paint across interior and exterior of rim and on handle; horizontal stripes of red paint below.
Fabric, firing, surface
Fabric (core): 2.5YR 7/6, light red; (thick surfaces): 7.5YR 7/4, pink. Painted decoration: 2.5YR 4/6, red. Fine, hard fabric with frequent golden mica and common, moderately sorted, rounded, white (calcareous) inclusions. Dull, streaky paint. Regional.
Preservation comment
Three large fragments, two joining, one (a) preserving 25% of base and lower wall and two (b) preserving ca. 33% of upper body and rim and one entire handle. Slight to moderate, extensive encrustation.
