Description
Patera. Floor and based molded separately in high relief as attached emblema and disk. Emblema has relief of nude male (Eros?) facing away and carrying pitcher on head, facing tree trunk; all surrounded by thin cable border and low, squared rim. Base: Low, raised ring (foot?) around underside; wide flaring flutes up wall. Slipped on all surfaces.
Fabric, firing, surface
Pale buff. Hard, consistently fired; fine, smooth break. Rare, tiny, well sorted, dark and light bits (some calcareous). Thin, even, semimatte with metallic sheen, bright orangish red. Classic fine Knidian.
Preservation description
One sherd preserves ca. 7-10% of emblema with base ring and small part of lowermost wall. Slight, sparse abrasion and marginal chipping; slightly worn breaks; scattered specks of encrustation.
