1960s: joined with natural shellac and infilled with white plaster painted buff.
Description
Hemispherical bowl with low ring foot, molded relief on wall, and plain, vertical rim with slightly everted lip. Medallion: two ridges around eight palmettes around central rosette. Wall: imbircate pattern of rounded lotus petals. Rim: band of guilloche framed below by wide band and above by narrow band.
Fabric, firing, surface
Yellowish buff, consistently fired(?); somewhat soft, very fine, smooth breaking; rare lime specks. Thin, even, semilustrous slip over all surfaces, fired dark gray to black but mottled; peeling everywhere, including one large patch. Corinthian.
Preservation comment
Seven joining fragments preserve ca. 25% of rim and wall with full profile. Moderate, extensive abrasion and rare pitting across relief; worn breaks; no encrustation (but cleaned in conservation).
