Fabric, firing, and surface description
Brown fabric with a tinge of red; medium coarse, hard; granular break with sandy surface texture; tiny to small, mixed inclusions but hard to discern through encrustation: mostly dark (gray, black?, some red, offwhite angular); scattered vegetal voids; rare tiny sparkles. Egyptian. Rather irregular or “sloppy“ production.
Preservation comment
Entire toe broken from lower wall of amphora. Extensive, moderate abrasion and chipping around edges; worn breaks; extensive film of encrustation. Waterworn?
