Explanation of deposition
Cut in recent decades to serve as pit toilet in a discreet spot behind ancient walls.
Location in unit
Heterogeneous fill in triangular pit from roughly modern surface to floor in northwest corner of Building A1.
Soil matrix
Upper fill is brown to dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2, 5/3, 2.5YR 5/2), very loose, clayey silt with many pebbles to large cobbles (3–20 cm range) and large fragments of tile/brick. Lower fill is distinctly weak red to reddish brown (2.5YR 4/2, 5YR 5/3), somewhat compact, very fine clay with rich, pungent, organic matter.
