A Late Antique form common in the Levant from Egypt to Syria, with limited distribution to the Aegean, Italy, and the western Mediterranean. Made in the coastal plain of northern Palestine into southern Phoenicia, with workshops in the areas of Akko (Ptolemaïs) and Tyre. Tall, conical body tapering downward with low sloping shoulders has a cylindrical neck with a flanged rim and tapered lip, high arched handle, and a solid button at the base. Orange to reddish yellow fabric with frequent, well sorted, sandy inclusions (chiefly quartzite and calcareous, with various other mixed bits).
