- Description
- Container for the famous dark Chian wine exported throughout the Greek world from the Archaic to Hellenistic eras. The basic form was a conical body with a solid knobbed spike and a long, narrow, cylindrical neck with a plain rim and tall, vertical handles, circular in section. The Early Roman form was somewhat smaller and displayed a slightly rounded body and a narrower neck rising well above the upper attachment of the handles. Production on Chios until mid/-late 1st century C.E.
