Description
Late Roman-Early Byzantine amphora of uncertain origin, perhaps southern Italy (Sicily-Calabria), according to presence in Italy to Carthage. Small, ovoid to elliptical body with tall rounded shoulder, narrow, biconical neck, widely everted rim, loop handles, and a short, hollow base. Reddish brown to red fabric, hard and sandy. 4th-7th centuries.
