Description
Middle Byzantine (High Medieval) amphora of Apulian and/or Corinthian manufacture distributed across southern Italy, Adriatic, and central/southern Greece. Wide ovoid body with a round bottom, low rounded shoulders, a short truncoconical neck, a flaring or cupped rim, with high and wide looping, ridged handles that rise above the rim. Fabric in Otranto: cream, soft, very fine. Fabric in Corinth: reddish yellow, somewhat hard, with few white, red-orange, and gray inclusions.
