Casserole with rounded bottom marked by dense ridging and offset by flange, outward sloping wall, and plain or rolled rim. Two subtypes: one relatively smaller and shallower with plain rim (A) and one relatively larger and deeply with inwardly rolled rim and more prominent flange (B). Very common ARS form of the early 2nd to 3rd century.
Chronology comment
Bonifay (p. 211) revised the Hayes chronology (ca. 100-230): 23A=Flavian examples(?) but mainly 2nd century; 23B=first half 2nd-4th century (signficant transformation by end of 4th century).
