A regional production of red-slipped ware that reached the markets of the Levant, from Egypt to Asia Minor, mainly during the 5th to 6th centuries, though the earlier forms are dated late 4th century and the latest to the late 7th century. Production on Cyprus and distribution in the eastern Mediterranean, with few examples reported in Greece and further west. Very fine, smooth fabric of variable color, chiefly dark red or purple, and a matt slip of similar color to clay. Bowls, dishes, and basins, often adorned with coarse rouletting on the outside wall, and sometimes grooving on the rim and stamped motifs on the floor.
