Description
Ceramic vessels that ancient people used chiefly or exclusively as an aid to ritual activities, including but not limited to cult practice, such as veneration or offering, burial or commemoration. Such instruments can be functionally ambiguous, for example lamps and unguentaria, which are not included here; in addition magical objects (q.v.).
