Hayes designated “Macedonian Terra Sigillata Grise“ because of formal similarities to “Gaulish Terra Sigillata Grise” (LRP p. 405). Anderson-Stojanović designated “Late Roman Macedonian Gray Ware” (StobiI, p. 61; cf. AgoraXXXII, p. 90 “Macedonian Fine Gray Ware“).

Description
A regional Late Roman production that occurs chiefly in Macedonia, where it was manufactured, and in small numbers across southeastern Europe, including Greece and Thrace. Fine, dense clay containing silvery mica fired gray or brownish gray, with a thin, dark gray to black slip, often lustrous or metallic. The most common forms are dishes and bowls, and less common are cups, beakers, and jugs. Distinctive repertory of geometric motifs both impressed and incised on rims and walls.
