Late Roman Athenian lamp, late glazed
Description
Tear-shaped outline. Circular, concave discus has rosette with 10-14(?) concave petals and irregular raised rim. Sloping shoulder has herringbone in relief. Low, thick, solid handle has three grooves. Slight joining ridge and webbing.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 5YR 7/4, pink. Dull, thin, even slip is a slight wash preserved in large patches—late phase glazed.
Preservation comment
One small fragment preserves small part of discus and shoulder and entire upper handle. Very slight, very sparse abrasion; moderate, extensive encrustation.
