- Description
- Circular, concave discus has filling hole left, figural relief, and narrow, flat framing ring. Figure shows male with right leg bent and resting on platform with colonette to side and left leg bent at the knee and resting on the ground. Left hand apparently pouring from a jar, with indistinguishable object behind left leg; right hand is extended down between legs apparently pulling on penis. The pointed bonnet, prominent lips and nose, nudity, and exuberant dancing posture all identify this individual as a grotesque or comic figure. Shoulder has small ovules and panels. Details are blunt.
- Fabric, firing, and surface description
- 7.5 YR 6/6, reddish yellow. Early/Middle Roman Corinthian lamp fabric: slightly red, slightly grainy and soft.
- Preservation comment
- One large fragment preserves nearly entire discus and small part of shoulder. Slight to moderate, extensive abrasion; slight abrasion across discus; slight to moderate, sandy, extensive encrustation.
