Description
Flat base has single, circular groove around incuse signature ]ΑΝΙ|[ (circular impression in second line is perhaps a stamped circle or upper loop of final ess). Probably should read RΩΜ]ΑΝΙ|[ƧΙƧ (mixed Greek and Latin with retrograde esses). Clay globules in signature.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 2.5YR 6/6, light red. Slip: 5YR 6/4, light reddish brown. Fine, somewhat hard fabric with very rare, very small, subangular, black and white (calcitic?) inclusions and very rare, small flecks of golden mica. Thin, somewhat uneven, semilustrous slip with slightly metallic sheen extends inside over wall; thicker blotches on wall fired blackish.
Preservation comment
One large fragment preserves roughly one-half of base. Well preserved surface.
