Typological identification
Early/Middle Roman Asia Minor Lamp, red-on-white
Description
Circular outline. Circular discus has flat framing ring. Rounded, outward sloping shoulder has large ovules and “ears” in shape of arching band with volutes at transition to side; horizontal orientation to body but rising slightly above shoulder.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 2.5YR 6/6, light red. Glaze: 10R 5/8, red. Thick, semilustrous, mottled red glaze over white slip, extends inside over upper wall.
Preservation comment
Two small, nonjoining sherds preserve less than one quarter of shoulder with both ears and walls almost to base. Slight, sparse abrasion and pitting.
