- Description
- Conical cup. Rim has concave outer face under rounded lip; profile reflected on interior face; outer face of rim is offset from edge and inflection to wall by ridge, the lower one more distinctly. Regional imitation of high-rimmed cups though rather large; e.g. ESB Hayes Form 32.
- Fabric, firing, and surface description
- Fine hard fabric fired to consistent light red; occasional small light, rounded (calcareous?) chunks; essentially no other inclusions visible. Surface is thinly slipped and finely brushed, fired to a shade darker than fabric where very slightly thicker.
- Preservation comment
- Two non-joining rim sherds clearly from same vessel by way of identical circumference, rim height, and treatment (including very similar pattern of brush marks). Turn to wall evident but very small part of wall preserved of larger sherd. Slight, sparse abrasion; moderately worn breaks; large patches of thin encrustation on surface and breaks.
