Description
Jug with nearly flat base offset from wall by thickened portion. Very slight concavity to lower face of base with wide low facet (not quite a “button”) around center. Only a short portion of the wall is preserved; wall is straight where extant on base sherds, though the non-joining body sherd (which is clearly of same vessel) suggests expected curved body.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Hard, granular fabric consistently fired to gray with very frequent, mostly light and some reddish, sandy bits. Inclusions are visible through thin slip on all extant surfaces. Some variability in color of slip, as it retains vague reddish hue where thickest in streaks. Rough surface.
Preservation comment
Two joining base sherds, one body sherd, and six small chips preserve 75% of base circumference and lower portion of wall. Slight, sparse abrasion; worn breaks; somewhat thick, irregular, wide patches of encrustation on bottom and across breaks.
