JLR: The reverse inscription shows that this is Grosso Type III, a debased issue authorized from June 5, 1394 with a reduced weight and refined portrait of the doge (Stahl2000, p. 77).
Wear: P+. Extensive, minute pitting and rare scratching. Appears to have been standard size but has suffered even loss of its edge from rolling in surf; also loss of considerable weight (over half?) from even erosion of surfaces. The fact that recognizable designs survive on both faces, despite this deterioration, attests to the sharpness and depth of the coin’s original relief.
