OCK 1623.39-43: Rasinius of Arezzo, 15 BCE-40 CE
Description
Small plate with vertical rim and ring foot. Incuse stamp at center of floor: RASI in elliptical field with raised rim. Pair of lightly incised concentric grooves on floor. Very small extant portion of the rim helps narrow the identification down to likely Conspectus 18 or 20. Manufacturing mark stamped in center of floor, in rectangle: RASI(nii).
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fine hard fabric consistently fired to light red with no visible inclusions. Dark red slip on all surfaces, some original gloss retained on interior; underside is more dull and more thinly slipped, particularly in two streaks inside of ring foot.
Preservation comment
Two joining sherds preserve ca. 55% of foot and floor and a very small part of turn to rim. Slip, sparse pitting and minor chipping around edges; mostly clean breaks; faint, scattered clouds of gray discoloration.
