Late Roman Athenian lamp, late glazed
Description
Tear-shaped(?) outline. Tear-shaped(?), concave discus with raised rim around uncertain figural relief: Poseidon facing with trident in right hand and dolphin and left. Flat shoulder with framed herringbone in relief. Thick, pierced handle with three grooves.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Typical fabric (pale red with tinge of orange; fine, very hard), firing, and surface treatment (thin, even wash slightly more pale than fabric). Cf. Ke1378-L0385.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves ca. 28% of upper back part of lamp, including small part of discus, left and back shoulder, and upper handle. Moderate, extensive abrasion and slight pitting and chipping around edges; worn breaks; thin, faint film of encrustation.
