Description
Outward sloping shoulder to rounded back rim. Solid, handmade, vertical zoomorphic handle: horse or camel with cylindrical neck? 7th-8th century.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: brownish red core with lighted surface (1.5 mm); somewhat frequent tiny black and white bits. Consistently fired hard. Surface smoothed, including back seam.
Preservation comment
One fragment preserves entire handle and small part of back of body over seam. Slight to moderate, extensive abrasion and slight pitting; worn breaks.
