1960s: refitted with shellac.
Description
Flat bottom flask or narrow jug. Moulded base with slight central dimple. Thin walls, very slightly bulging above base. Slight shallow ridging on exterior lower wall.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Perhaps Corinthian Early-Middle Roman fabric but very discolored. Fine, now greenish, fabric, dark gray in places. No visible inclusions. Surface pale, though flaking.
Preservation comment
Seven joining sherds preserve base and lower wall. Extensive, moderate abrasion and flaking; worn breaks. Weathering consistent with long marine submersion.
